Dylan Hears A Who
One of the Internet’s greatest hits! This genius Zimmerman-Meets-Geisel album appeared a few years back, got hyped up and then was cease-and-desisted into oblivion by the Dr. Seuss Estate. Yes, the very same estate that eagerly gives its seal of approval to such masterpieces as this and this. Oh, well. Anyway, an anonymous donor recently hooked me up with Dylan Hears A Who, reminding me of its excellence. The album really is impressive in its detailed re-creation of Dylan’s 1965-66 sound, and the way in which the vocalist maintains an uncanny Bob impression, even while spitting out some of Seuss’ most tongue-twisting rhymes. While most Dylan impersonations are ill-informed cliches, this one is dead on, less a send-up than a loving homage. Overall, Dylan Hears A Who is a pretty enjoyable listen, even once the novelty wears off. There should be a sequel. Mr. Jones Can Moo, Can You?
